Description

The Initiative for Women Miners in Africa (IWoMA) is a non-profit organization focused on improving the working conditions of women artisanal miners in African rural communities. We collaborate with local NGOs, CBOs, community groups, cooperatives, associations, trade groups, and women's networks to provide information, knowledge, skills, and capacity to empower women miners and enhance their livelihood opportunities. Our initiatives include skills development programs, leadership and management training, and the promotion of safer mining practices.

 

Role Description

This is a remote volunteer role as a Country Program Executive for IWoMA. As a Country Program Executive, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating IWoMA's initiatives in your assigned country. This includes collaborating with local stakeholders, organizing and implementing skills development programs, overseeing leadership and management training, and monitoring the impact of our interventions. You will also be involved in fundraising efforts and reporting on program outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in program management and coordination

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of the mining industry and the challenges faced by women artisanal miners

  • Ability to work independently and remotely

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

  • Experience in fundraising and grant writing is a plus

  • Understanding of gender equality and women empowerment issues

 

We are particularly keen to receive interest from candidates with experience of working, volunteering, or living in sub-Saharan Africa, and/or exposure to working with the social sector.

 

The Board meets every 2 months, and the SPE will also participate in the meetings. Grant proposals, local projects and impacts are the top agenda for meetings. All meetings take place online.

 

Please note that this is a voluntary role and there is, therefore, no remuneration except in grant-specific conditions.
