In the last few years, miners have sought to build a “social license to operate” by developing relationships with communities and governments. However, as global needs evolve, the industry must now also consider both investor and consumer concerns about a responsible value chain to obtain a “social license to market”. Issues discussed include: • How have stakeholder expectations evolved /changed? • How do you build successful relationships? • Can governments and miners collaborate better to ‘mine for good’? Do we know what that means? • How can you make positive the societal and human capital? • What standards should miners follow? Is there one size fits all? • The role of local procurement? Global procurement?
